Prominent Philadelphia songwriter and social activist John Francis brings together an incredible group of Philadelphia and New York cohorts for one night of music to benefit The Philadelphia AIDS Fund.

John Francis has made a career of helping others, both through his music and his community involvement. His work at a South Philadelphia community center, participation in various Hurricane Katrina events and other social work have shaped the people around him as well as his own art.

Francis was honored by ASCAP as the 2006 recipient of the prestigious Sammy Cahn Lyricist Award for his song "Love Came to Me Dressed in Red". Previous winners have been John Mayer, Josh Ritter, and Lori McKenna. John Francis has been described as an 'inspired lyricist', 'artful' and 'brooding'. Storyteller and conduit, Francis is becoming known for his soulful descriptions of a troubled world. He performed in October 2006 for the United Nations summit To End World Poverty.

John is currently in Nashville recording the followup to his 2005 release “Strong Wine & Spirits”; the new album will be produced by John Carter Cash (of the Cash family) with the hope of a Fall 2008 release.

New York singer/songwriters Sarah Fullen and Kelley McRae are frequent JF collaborators; Hezekiah Jones is based in Philadelphia and will appear this year’s Philadelphia Folk Festival.
